Basavarajeswari, a philanthropist and former union minister, the university’s roots can be traced back to the establishment of the Tungabhadra Education Health and Rural Development Trust (TEHRD).

The TEHRD Trust was a collective effort of a group of philanthropists led by Smt. Basavarajeswari, who shared a common goal – to offer affordable and excellent education to the masses. Starting with a single institution, the Trust gradually expanded its educational network, establishing eight institutes from kindergarten to postgraduate levels, with Kishkinda University being the latest addition.
